Difficulty
Medium - high level of fitness required, minimum 800 m descent, 8 km walk (from Luxmore Hut), walking time 3-6 hours. Option to walk to the summit of Mt Luxmore as weather conditions and personal fitness allow. This will add an extra 2.5 hours walking time to the day, and an additional 400 metre descent (total 1200 metres).
The majority of this walk is downhill, so your joints (especially knees), will get a good work out! Do not underestimate the downhill, it is a long way. Generally anyone over 45 years will find this walk plesantly challenging and rewarding without the summit, and there are plenty of stunning views to be gained around the hut.
On occasion, alpine weather may make conditions more challenging. We operate in most weather conditions, so you need to be suitably prepared. Not recommended for children under 8 years.
Well maintained track, no drop offs.

Please adhere to the guides' advice on the day, to ensure the best possible experience, they have knowledge of the weather and trail conditions.
Meals
A packed picnic lunch is provided to you at the start of the day to carry in your backpack.
If you have any dietary requirements please let us know prior to the day of travel so we can cater for these. Please note the picnic lunch provided is fuel you for a full day's activity and suitable for the wilderness conditions.

NOTE: Departure time can vary on your request, and the trip can be done in a 1/2 day. Minimum time required 4 hours (with no summit option). Just let us know your plans and we can schedule your day accordingly!

What to bring
We recommend guests bring comfortable walking shoes (with good tread, boots with ankle support are best), day pack containing warm sweater/fleece top, waterproof jacket, warm hat and gloves (it is often cold in the alpine area), sunhat and glasses, camera, drinking water and lunch (if not pre-ordered). Note Jeans and street wear are not suitable clothing, please ensure you wear suitable outdoor, quick drying, active wear for the walks. Walking poles available if requested.
We Provide
A professional private hiking guide, all transport including accommodation pick up and drop off, helicopter flight to Luxmore Hut and water taxi on Lake Te Anau, safety gear, packed picnic lunch and hot drinks. If you have any dietary requests for the lunch please ensure we are advised of these prior to 5.00 pm the day before travel so we can cater for them, thank you.
