Ex Te Anau Return transport

Package includes return transport from Te Anau & flight Milford Sound to Martins Bay

You are collected from your Te Anau accommodation and transported overland on the spectacular alpine highway to Milford Sound by Trips & Tramps comfortable coach. After arriving at Milford Sound you will fly to Martins Bay by helicopter or fixed wing plane*.

On conclusion of your tramp you will be collected from the Hollyford Road end in the afternoon and transported back to Te Anau by road. We can offer this pick up any day but it must be pre-booked.

Jetboat Add-On

There is an option available to take a jet-boat from Martins Bay Hut to Pyke River confluence (there are no drop offs along the way just a service between these points).  Note this service is an additional charge, and provided by Hollyford Track Guided Walk so may not be available on occasions.

*Flight notes:The majority of flights will be with the Hollyford Guided Walks helicopter, this will impact on cost and availability. If you have a group of 4 + please let us know as the fixed wing plane is available for groups at a lower cost and can be scheduled any day.

Please go to the book now button for availability. We hope to keep updating this as more dates become available so please keep checking!

The whole experience was fantastic

My husband & I booked with Trips & Tramps for our drop off & pick up for the Hollyford Walking Track. The whole experience was fantastic. The trip with Michelle, our driver to Milford Sound was both fun filled and extremely knowledgeable. We were met at the airstrip by our pilot who flew us into Martins Bay, a 15 minute journey which was breathtakingly beautiful, so worth it! We spent 6 days on the walk, which at times was challenging due to the continual rain, but an amazing "back country adventure" until Alabaster Hut where the track through to the Hollyford Road end was more "back country comfort" Becks, our driver took us back to Te Anau, she was delightful and equally as knowledgeable as Michelle had been. Would have no hesitation in recommending Trips & Tramps, they do it so well!

I just wanted to let you know that the arrangements worked out superbly and we are very grateful to you and the Trips and Tramps team for getting us into the Hollyford and out safely. The trip into Milford was a nice addition to the journey home as it’s been a few years since we were there.

Hollyford Track Information

The Hollyford Track is a fantastic tramping adventure for those who like to be a little off the beaten track, but still have a good track and huts to stay in.

Huts are on a first-come basis, and there is no booking system.  You just need hut tickets from the Department of Conservation ($15 per night).

Depending on your motivations and fitness you can walk the Hollyford Track in 3-5 days. For options to walk the track see our Independent guide to walking the Hollyford Track blog.

With no alpine sections this track is rarely cut off by snow so you can tramp it year round, though transport options are restricted in the winter months.

Keep Safe

Plan properly for your trip and ensure your party has a capable, leader. Be sure you have all the necessary equipment and clothing.  Physical fitness and good equipment will make all the difference to the enjoyment of your trip.

  • We strongly recommend that you carry a Personal Locator Beacon, these can be hired in Te Anau.
  • Take enough food, clothing and equipment, portable stoves and fuel.
  • Sections of the track can become impassable after heavy rain, especially along the Demon Trail area and at the Jerusalem River between Hokuri and Martins Bay Hut. Be prepared to sit it out.
  • Orange markers will guide the way along the track.
  • There are several three-wire bridges on the Demon Trail section.
  • Check at the Fiordland National Park Visitor Centre for conditions before you go.

Before you go into the outdoors, tell someone your plans and leave a date to raise the alarm if you haven't returned. To do this, use the New Zealand Outdoors Intentions process on the AdventureSmart website. It is endorsed by New Zealand's search and rescue agencies and provides three simple options to tell someone you trust the details about your trip.
