Hollyford Track Information

The Hollyford Track is a fantastic tramping adventure for those who like to be a little off the beaten track, but still have a good track and huts to stay in.

Depending on your motivations and fitness you can walk the Hollyford Track in 3-5 days. For options to walk the track see our Independent guide to walking the Hollyford Track blog.

With no alpine sections this track is rarely cut off by snow so you can tramp it year round, though transport options are restricted in the winter months.

We work with Fly Fiordland for the flight portion of travel, they operate fixed wing aircraft. We fly from Milford Sound as this offers the most reliable flight path.

Keep Safe

Plan properly for your trip and ensure your party has a capable, leader. Be sure you have all the necessary equipment and clothing.  Physical fitness and good equipment will make all the difference to the enjoyment of your trip.

  • We strongly recommend that you carry a Personal Locator Beacon, these can be hired in Te Anau.
  • Take enough food, clothing and equipment, portable stoves and fuel.
  • Sections of the track can become impassable after heavy rain, especially along the Demon Trail area and at the Jerusalem River between Hokuri and Martins Bay Hut. Be prepared to sit it out.
  • Orange markers will guide the way along the track.
  • There are several three-wire bridges on the Demon Trail section.
  • Check at the Fiordland National Park Visitor Centre for conditions before you go.

Before you go into the outdoors, tell someone your plans and leave a date to raise the alarm if you haven't returned. To do this, use the New Zealand Outdoors Intentions process on the AdventureSmart website. It is endorsed by New Zealand's search and rescue agencies and provides three simple options to tell someone you trust the details about your trip.
