Routeburn Track Great Walk

Linking Mount Aspiring National Park with Fiordland National Park, the Routeburn – while lesser-known than the Milford – features some of the grandest scenery. Huge, glacier-carved valleys, snowy mountains, waterfalls and jewel-like lakes dot the length of the Routeburn.  
 
One of the great things about the Routeburn is that its location lends itself to an unforgettable day hike if you would prefer not to hike the full length. Key Summit is home to arguably the best views on the track, and is accessible from a place called The Divide, which is about halfway along the Milford Road. Journeying from Te Anau to The Divide, then hiking the Routeburn Track to Key Summit & back before heading back to your accommodation is a day you won’t forget in a hurry.  
 
The Routeburn track is alive with native bird life, including the cheeky Kea which are the world’s only alpine parrot. En route to Key Summit you’ll pass through temperate rainforests and onto a unique alpine herb field.
